buckingham.... genius

That's all for everyone
That's all for me
Last call for everyone
Must be just exactly what I need
I call for everyone
I cry for more
That's all for everyone
Must be just exactly what I need
That's all

I need somewhere to go
That's all
Must be what I need
That's all
I need someone to know
Last call
Exactly what I need

I can't stay
I can't deceive
That's all for everyone
Must be just exactly what I need
So that's all for everyone
That's all for me
Last call for everyone
Must be just exactly what I need
That's all

I need somewhere to go
That's all
Must be what I need
That's all
I need someone to know
Last call
Exactly what I need
That's all for everyone
That's all, that's all, that's all, that's all.

THE separator...

It's like I've fallen out of bed from a long, vivid dream
The sweetest flower, fruits are hanging from the trees
Falling off a giant bird that's been carrying me
It's like I've fallen out of bed from a long and vivid dream

Just exactly as I remember, every word, every gesture

Have my heart in my mouth

Like I've fallen out of bed from a long, vivid dream

Finally I'm free of all the weight I've been carrying

And as that woman blows her cover

In the eye of the beholder
I'm a fish now, out of water

Falling off a giant bird that's been carrying me

I fell open, I lay under at the tip I lost your number

I wanna slip over and get back under

And if you think this is over, then you're wrong
If you think this is over, then you're wrong
If you think this is over, then you're wrong

If you think this is over, then you're wrong

Like I've fallen out of bed from a long, vivid dream

Finally I'm free of all the weight I've been carrying

When at last you'll give in

When at last you'll give in

Wake me up, wake me up...

To my mother...

I'd like to introduce you to my mother. Little Betty Thorburn.
Kinda young lookin' eh? Lol, ...no but seriously that's when she was just a baby :) Look at her bottom lip, awwww.

I don't know how they even had time for photographs back in those days.
At the time this picture was taken WWII was in full swing and in the tiny, ship building town of Barrow-in-Furness (Northern England) the locals were too busy hanging black curtains in their windows and running to air raid shelters.
You see, the reason "they" were a target was that their little push-pin on the tiny little island's map was responsible for building submarines and ships for England's forces.
"Take'em out at the source" was the strategy.

She owes her life to another woman I am thankful to have known, "Nana Sally". It was in her arms that my mother was rushed to safety everytime the sirens resounded through the town.
Anyone who remembers the old black & white episodes of Coronation Street in the 50's will get an idea of just what these cobblestone back streets of the north looked like. :)

As luck would have it, she made it and grew up to be a wonderful young lady. With a suitcase full of stories to boot. She met my father and emmigrated to Canada where they started a new life and,....oh yah,.....I came along!! :D
Three years after, my dear sister was born and our mother became "SuperMOM"!

She is the best mother anyone could hope for. Nuturing my sister and I into adulthood with that never ending compassion for our well being.
We are both parents now and she continues to bring the same bright light, love and dedication to us and our children.

I love you mom!
Happy Mother's Day <3

Not just a sales pitch....

I've just signed up with Gumroad.com and I like what I see.

A few ....decades ago (yes, decades...) myself and a good friend were in a deep discussion (over a bottle of Scotch) about The Beatles and their creativity. Their music....the process they went through etc...
A recollection of how they used to argue and bicker about when to stop ADDING to a song brought to mind that old phrase: "Keep it simple, stupid."

Well, simple IS better and such is the case at Gumroad.com.
We are living in the age of "Connectivity" and are nearing if not far exceeding the point of "social network" saturation, as far as how many aspects of our "offline" life we can incorporate into our "online" existance.

How many of us has bought something, if not just 1 thingy or widget, from eBay or Kijiji?? I would think that I would be hard pressed to find someone who hasn't.

Now how many of you have had success as being the seller??  hmmmm, different answers I'm sure on that front...

How about selling DIRECTLY to your friends, followers, ...fans??
...who knows, those "Like" buttons might turn into Dollar signs $$ ;)

Simple and easy, join Gumroad.com., create, connect, sell   ...be happy

Here, ...watch this, ...my glass is empty ;)

Mood of the moment...

That there, that's not me
I go where I please
I walk through walls
I float down the Liffey

I'm not here
This isn't happening
I'm not here, I'm not here

In a little while
I'll be gone
The moment's already passed
Yeah, it's gone

I'm not here
This isn't happening
I'm not here, I'm not here

Strobe lights and blown speakers
Fireworks and hurricanes

I'm not here
This isn't happening
I'm not here, I'm not here....

M.D. plays L.Z. with a cheshire cat grin,
while a Tribe runs away with my bevy,
and the angels of a certain public's enemy watch over me.

But it's ok... I got my mask to protect me & don't worry mom,
I got my 40 & my mule,...so it's all good

Celebrating April.

I lost a dear friend to cancer last Friday night...

April O'Farrell was, in a word, pure ENERGY!

She was indeed special to me. When I first saw April back about 10 years ago I had "that" reaction one gets when seeing a woman Iike her....Wow!!

Fellas, you know what I'm talkin' about.

Right away we clicked. As she did with everyone she met. She just had that effect on you. She was new to the post office so immediately made it my business to "show her the ropes" :) ;)
One of my first memories I have of her is, after work one day,  I needed a ride home and even though it was out of her way, she said "Sure!"
She drove a pick up truck at the time and was very confident behind the wheel if you get my meaning ;)
We came upon a merging lane in the road and an 'average' person would've yielded to the traffic but she sped up and made it in by a hair!! Letting out her classic sexy, cackling laugh! I was in the passenger seat quivering in disbelief that we were still alive but I had an excitement as well coursing through me and turned to look at her with the thought in my head that...."I HAD to have this woman!!!" LOL
I did, of course, make a mental note NOT to ask her for a lift anywhere from that moment on :o

Months passed and my sightings of her came and went, as that was the nature of the position she held, and she eventually ended up spending most of her time in other depots.
A few years passed and when we saw each other, as brief as those encounters were, it was always nice, funny, memorable. She genuinely cared about you and you knew it from the way she treated you. She cherished every moment and drew the most she could out of every experience.

And then, ...this one time,...at band camp, ...just kidding.. ;)

I believe in my heart that, even though we didn't connect in "that" way, she held a special place for me in her heart. As did I for her in mine.
I remember a lovely summer's day, not too long ago, that we took her two gorgeous dogs out for a run in the surrounding forests near the Grand River where we shared, bitched & laughed about life. It was a great day.

The nature of the game when one goes from depot to depot is that you do loose track of people. And when I learned of her cancer, after visiting her depot looking for her, it was an absolute shock.
Obviously, we reconnected and ever since there have been the ups and downs of that tragic disease but throughout, she was forever uplifting and positive.
She talked about "When I get back to work..etc." Amazingly, during our chats, it was her that brought me out of my being down in the dumps about my trials & tribulations. She was just soo optimistic.

....and now she's gone but...she will remain alive in my heart forever and ever. There'll never be another like April Mellissa O'Farrell. ...My friend.

Love & memories forever.

Blackberry, the writing is on the wall...

If there's one thing that is driving the smartphone market these days, it's ...Content.
I have to say that I've spent years with the pride of my region's RIM driven device in my pocket. But as the models improve and the company goes through it's business woes & faux pas (Playbook), there's one thing that the devices always fall short on and that's the rendering or delivery of online content. Not to mention the hardware issues that have resulted in the consumer's adopted reboot of choice: "The battery pull". As a matter of fact, there is a "1 click" app available in the app store for just such occasions. :o

My most recent, personal experience with a complete OS "upgrade?" resulted in little to no improvement in responsiveness or user experience when it came to content. The only one improvement worth a mention is the inclusion of the ability to use the device as a mobile hotspot for other devices.

The photo below depicts the long wait of trying to fetch/view a simple picture on someone's wall in the Facebook app to the subsequent message that no photo's were available when in fact those photos are available to view on any other device on the market.

I'm not taking sides or picking a winner here. In fact I'm very proud of my Waterloo region's entry and hopefully, strong held foothold in the world stage of technology. But if something does not improve in this regard they will loose yet another customer to a competitor and it won't be the loss of the Blackberry Messenger app that will prevent it.

Go Canada!!

D.I.Y. Techie-Toot #1 "Router/ Wireless Repeater."

I've decided to include the odd geeky tutorial here to get to know the various gadgets that you may have purchased and are not getting the full benefit from or don't know the potential of what you've just blown your paycheck on... :p
Hopefully they'll come in handy for some of you!! :D

#1

Using Your Xtra (just gathering dust) Router To Xtend Your Home Network Signal ;)

A.     Setup your extisting wireless router:
This is the router which directly connects to your existing modem. There is nothing special here about the set up for this router. Any router can act as your primary router. Just enable DHCP server on it and configure it in a basic 192.168.x.x subnet. Remember, this router will be the only router with a DHCP server on your entire network.  Setup your wireless security within this router.(WEP, WPA, WPA2 etc) Take note of the SSID(Network name) and Security key. Your secondary router will connect to this router using same SSID settings. ;)

B.     Setup your secondary router using the "dd-wrt" custom firmware.
(this custom firmware will allow for the repeater functionality)
Visit dd-wrt.com to download and instructions to flash the appropriate firmware for your router model. :)
 *it's easy trust me

1.    Once you've flashed dd-wrt to your secondary router, go to the router admin page. Disable the DHCP server by going to Setup/Basic Setup as shown in the image below.
2.     On the Setup/Basic Setup page, choose an IP address for the router.  Assuming that your original router's IP address is 192.168.1.1, change this router's IP address to 192.168.1.2. Input gateway and Local DNS as 192.168.1.1. Select Save Settings.

Note:  Because you've just change the secondary router's IP address in the previous step, log on to the router using its NEW IP address 192.168.1.2. ;)

3.     Once logged on, go to the Wireless/Basic Settings page, change Wireless Mode to Repeater Bridge, Wireless network mode to Mixed, make the SSID(same as main router ssid), change Network Configuration to Bridged. Select Save.
In the virtual interface, click on "Add". Enter wireless network name (same as the main router SSID). Enable SSID Broadcast, Network Configuration Bridged. Save and Apply Settings.
4.     Go to Security/Firewall and proceed to uncheck all of the boxes, except "Filter Multicast". Then disable SPI firewall and click Save and Apply Settings.
5.     Go to Wireless/Wireless Security . Enter the security mode(WEP, WPA, WPA2 etc) and security key/phrase from your original router.
Note: The security mode and security key MUST match the original security mode and security key of the primary router. Select Save Settings.
Do exactly the same on the virtual interface below.
Select the security and security mode the same as the main interface.

Congrats! You've just turned your old, dusty router (that you thought you'd get rid of on Kijiji) into a power house Repeater that would've cost an arm & a leg!  Your all set. Check the signal connection by going to Status/Wireless page in your new repeater.

I hope was helpful.

Freedom...

....simple

Is it really worth striving for it??

Perfection is the Enemy of Excellence

Excellence is willing to be wrong.
Perfection is being right.

Excellence is risk.
Perfection is fear.

Excellence is powerful.
Perfection is anger and frustration.

Excellence is spontaneous.
Perfection is control.

Excellence is accepting.
Perfection is judgment.

Excellence is giving.
Perfection is taking.

Excellence is confidence.
Perfection is doubt.

Excellence is flowing.
Perfection is pressure.

Excellence is journey.
Perfection is destination.

*Not entirely sure who penn'd this - Google is your friend ;)

Bliss in Solitude...

Cracks in the pavement underneath my shoe
I care less and less about and less about you
No one else around to look at me
So I can look at my shadow as much as I please

Space around me where my soul can breathe
I've got body that my mind can leave
Nothing else matters, I don't care what I miss
Company's okay
Solitude is bliss

There's a party in my head and no one is invited

Movement doesn't flow
Quite like it does when I'm alone
I'll be the one who's free
You and all your friends
Can watch me, today

Don't ask me how you're supposed to feel
